Double demerit penalties for the long weekend apply from Friday 25 September to Monday 28 September (inclusive).

Motorists should be aware that as of 12am Friday September 25, double demerits apply across the state for the following offences:

  • Speeding;
  • Drink or drug driving;
  • Failing to wear a seat belt and/or child restraint;
  • Running a red light; and
  • Illegal use of a mobile phone while driving.

WA Police will be out enforcing double demerits across the long weekend to help stop risk taking behaviour on Western Australian roads and to protect the majority of the community who do the right thing.

More information on double demerit points is available on the Road Safety Commission Road Rules & Penalties page.
