Summernats is the biggest car festival in Australia, you may get more friendly folks at a regional place where you know the locals, but once every few years you should take in all that Summernats has to offer, and that’s just what i did for Summernats 27.

i went as part of the bogan and proud team and we drove all the way over in a small truck. no car as yet but its been almost 15yrs since i last went and the first time for mark. Canberra may have built up much like Perth has in the decade since i was there, but Summernats is still at the same place and still has the vibe of open headers, methanol and good laughs all around. This year they basically closed off ‘Feral Ally’ to stop after hours hoon activity, not sure if that’s warranted but it’s done now. that didnt stop a lot of people doing short 3ft skids.just to show the punters some ‘loss of traction’ love and security didn’t throw anyone out for it, as long as you didn’t act like a Muppet you were fine.

A very relaxed atmosphere for the whole weekend, although getting woke up at 6am for cleaners and 7am for some early cruisers sum1amade sleeping in a no-go!! the variety of cars was always going to be a bit of contention with late model ‘But now- pay later’Β creations around plus the old school rod/home made stuff, i’d prefer the old skool cars but that’s what rod shows are for. some cars were mild and ‘Tuff street’ was awesome to see cars that you could actually drive on the roads, some were just built for fun and a lot were mountain motors shoved into just about everything, plus the odd one with just an LS1 as nothing much else would fit (yes i’m talking about the mighty boys) and the brumby ute plus a few others like the rod mini van.Β  good to see some Jap cars there and the 4 Delorean’s and some pommy stuff just to add to the mix as seeing the same ford/holden/plastic new breed can get boring quickly.

all in all it was what Summernats is…lot of cars to suit a lot of people and action for the skid fans (which i didnt really get a chance to see unfortunately) and music, food and the odd beverage to keep cool with πŸ˜‰
i just hope it’s not another decade before i can get back there, maybe even with my own car or two!!
