DOUBLE DEMERIT PENALTIES FOR THE ANZAC DAY LONG WEEKEND

Note: Double demerit penalties for the Anzac Day long weekend apply from Friday 24 to Monday 27 April 2015 (inclusive).

Motorists should be aware that as of midnight tonight, double demerits apply across Western Australia for a range of traffic offences to help stop dangerous activity on our roads.
At the conclusion of the recent Easter long weekend, WA ended the holiday period with the nation’s equal second highest number of road deaths. Four people were tragically killed during the break – a timely reminder to the public about the fragility of life and the importance of safe and responsible driving.
This Anzac Day long weekend, the following offences will be subject to double demerit penalties:

  • Speeding;
  • Drink or drug driving;
  • Failing to wear a seat belt and/or child restraint;
  • Running a red light; and
  • Illegal use of a mobile phone while driving.

WA Police will be out enforcing double demerits across the state this long weekend to help stop risk taking behaviour and to protect the majority of the community who do the right thing on our roads.
More information on double demerits is available on the Road Rules & Penalties page

new window.
The Office of Road Safety wishes all West Australians a happy and safe long weekend.
