The Black Pearl

by

Well it was a awesome day on Sunday the 11th of September so we decided to get out of the house and take
The EXR8 out for a shoot , we spent about 2 hours or so detailing it so while it was still clean we thought we’d treat it
to a shoot for the first time in years

we have owned this car for around 6 or so years , its a 1991 Ford Falcon S pack XR8 Series 1 , painted in ‘ Black pearl ‘  , one of the first XR8′s models to be rolled out after ford decided to scrap the V8 range after the XE Falcon , they continued to produce 4.1 litre EFI engines for the XF Series then going to the 4.0ltr single point injection and 4.0ltr multipoint engines for the EA Series

Ford decided to start rolling out the V8 yet again and started with the Ford EB XR8 series motor vehicles ,  later on they teamed up with Tickford and started producing Tickford enhanced XR8′s and XR6′s, unfortunately this model missed out on the tickle of  Tickford but rumors have it they did some little mods to the Series 1 XR8 anyway

we purchased this bad boy from City Motors on Newcastle street for $8990 ( was a reasonable price back then for the condition of it ) , the previous owners already lowered it , tinted the windows and threw on a set of ROH shadow chrome mags , we just needed to add some kickin’ sounds and the package was complete

unfortunately we have had a few dramas mechanically with this car , right from the start it has always had something wrong with the cooling system , weather its the radiator , overheating , leaking or something like that , after a few years we discovered the vehicle had a ‘ Electrolysis ‘ issue , being that there was a electrical current running through the cooling system  , this caused the coolant to turn acidic and pretty much eat anything alloy , like the timing cover and water pump ( the heads are cast iron , thank god! ) , we destroyed 2 timing covers before the a mechanic found the issue and fixed it by adding proper earths , we also killed 2 alternators due to the stereo thrashing them and a few sets of tyres :P

we have pretty much kept it stock because we figure that it just looks better that way , they are becoming hard to find stock and in good nick like this one and we just dont like ruining a good looking vehicle

well there you have it , this is our EXR8 , we will add more photos to the gallery once we shoot some more , like stereo install and engine bay ( it was pretty dusty today! )

thanks for taking the time to check out our own feature and if you would like one of your own car , drop us a line!
